The Mosquito Range is in central Colorado and forms a high barrier between the headwaters of the Arkansas River near Leadville from South Park and the headwaters of the South Platte River near Fairplay. The peaks of the range run north to south for approximately 40 miles. The highest peak in the range is Mount Lincoln (14,286 ft.) The Tenmile Range is in reality an extension of the Mosquito Range, lying on its western side. Thus the difficult to understand combined name. Pacific Tarn in the Tenmile Range is the highest named lake in the lower 48 states.

The Tenmile-Mosquito Range is primarily composed of granite. Glaciers that once covered much of the northern part of the range dug out the typical u-shaped valleys common to these mountains. The range consists of many gentle peaks, classified as walkups. Several of the high peaks of the Tenmile-Mosquito are clearly visible along State Hwy. 91 south of Fremont Pass. But the range is not traversed by any major highway. Much of the range is located within Pike National Forest.
